Self esteem plays a major role in what we do with our lives. What kind of relationship we build with our loved ones and even with ourselves. How successful we get in life and most importantly, how happy we are.
But what is Self Esteem?
It is a person's overall sense of self worth and personal value. In other words, how much we like ourselves and appreciate ourselves.
It is very important to improve our self esteem if we want to do better in our lives.
Here I am sharing some techniques that helped me in my life. I hope they would help you too.
1. Start doing the things you love.
Make a list of 10 things that you absolutely love doing or what you have always wanted to do/learn.
Out of these 10, choose any top 5.
And start doing it. Everything we have in our schedule is important but if we are not doing it happily, it is not worth it.
Do make that painting, read that book, make that monologue, shoot that video or do that choreography. Do that for yourself.
Yes, doing the things that you have to do will get you appreciation and sense of achievement, but doing the thing that you love will make you happier from within.
2. Remind yourself about your good qualities.
Note down all the good qualities that you think you have. Be it kind/intelligent/selfless/humble/friendly/trusting/brave et cetera. Make a list of them.
Now write a memory where you had shown each of these qualities.
This will boost your self worth.
3. Question your mind - replace negative statements with positive ones.
Start questioning your own mind. Whenever a negative thought comes in your mind, for example : You start saying "I am worthless and I am useless". STOP right there and ask your mind, what made you say I'm worthless? What have I done to get this tag of worthlessness? That will confuse your mind and you will realize those are just statements you say without any actual meaning behind it. Then replace negative statements with positive ones.
4. Remove toxic people from your life.
Yes you read that right. Whenever you feel you are getting negative vibes from someone, trust yourself. Whenever you do not feel comfortable around a certain person, leave them for good.
As they say "If you found yourself by losing someone, you have won."
People we are mostly talking to play a very important role in how we see ourselves.
Even if it is someone you can not remove from your life (like a classmate or a family member) , just maintain distance. That will do you a lot good.
5. 'Would you say that to your little self?'
This trick actually works.
Imagine the 5 year old you. The innocent little child who has no idea how life is going to be. That kid is standing right in front of you. Would you say those words to her that you say to yourself? Would you tell her you're worthless and ugly? What would you say to her then? Think about it.
Yes. That is you. Treat yourself like you would treat your little self.
6. Take baby steps.
Start it by taking small steps. Start taking care of yourself, it will make you feel better.
For example : Drink water, do 1 exercise , read 2 pages of the book , study for 30 minutes , eat 1 healthy meal.
It is absolutely okay to start with the minimal. Do it all for yourself.
• At last, stop seeking validation and love from others. You need it from yourself. Do everything you seek from others for yourself. Reach your highest potential ◇.
