Why do you think most people succeed in life and most people lose when both have the same goal in life? Why do you think only few students top all subjects while others get good marks only in few subjects? Have you ever seen anyone asking you to open social media account and scroll? Or take a nap? Or perhaps eat a pizza? Then why do your parents have to tell you repeatedly to study? Think about it.
1. PURPOSE
What is that one thing that you need in order to study without anyone telling you to do so? That is REASON. We do not have any reason to study and we are just 'told' to study. We do not enjoy studying yet we 'have' to do it. We need a reason to study then we will do it like we take a nap. We take a nap in order to get relaxation, why would we study? In order to achieve our goals. We need to have a BURNING DESIRE that comes from within to start studying. No matter how much motivational or inspirational videos we see, the main inspiration comes from within when that spark arises in your mind.
Our mind is like a horse on which we are sitting and the horse is running around aimlessly. Falling in a dump or tripping over a bump and running in any way it finds accessible. We need to bridle that horse and give it a direction. Control your mind like that horse. Give it a direction or a purpose. A reason to do what it should do.
You may have 1000 reasons not to do your task, find that ONE reason to do it.
There is no bigger constructive power than having a desire and no bigger destructive power than having no desire/purpose in life.
2.ADDICTIONS
There are two feelings we experience, pain and pleasure. What would we wanna get more? Obviously pleasure. We prefer temporary pleasure which may lead to permanent problem in future. We tend to do things which gives us pleasure. Everything pleasurable done in limit is accepted and normal but if you do it without any limits it becomes addiction. Whatever happiness one enjoys, the thirst for it will increase. The thirst increases due to enjoyment. The thirst will go away by not indulging in it.
The easiest way to avoid addictions is stop getting in contact with things you feel would make you want to do that activity. For example, one of the most common addiction in students is sexual pleasure. Avoid seeing sexually appealing photographs or watching porn. Whenever this strikes in your mind distract yourself and do something else. Slowly and steadily learn to limit your addiction.
Why do we take a nap? To get relaxation after tiring our brain all day , not to attach to relaxation and sleeping all day.
Another type of addiction is humor. Weird isn't it? How can humor be addiction? Laughter is the best medicine. And that medicine is like an antidepressant. We have it as prescribed and in limit. If we eat that medicine all day , what will happen?
Its okay to study for hours for watching a humorous movie and not watching funny videos on YouTube for hours.
This is all energy we possess, use it in doing something productive. What is productive for you? If you're a student, then it is study. I am not saying do not do pleasurable activities. Do them, they're fun. But learn to maintain balance in life.
3.LIVE IN PRESENT
It might sound harsh but stop visualizing your future and make future plans. Many successful people have told that they never became what they planned to be but rather what their hard work got them into.
Live in present. If you're a student, stop visualizing about job and study. That is your job for now.
4. STOP LYING TO YOURSELF
You spend all your day doing nothing productive and at night you tell yourself 'I'll do this tomorrow'. These are the excuses you give to yourself and not anyone else. This will contribute to your failure and not anyone elses. Stop giving excuses to yourself. Your subconscious mind knows about your excuses but your conscious mind convert it into valid reasons for not doing your work to prevent the feeling of guilt. This is the time to be realistic and stop lying to yourself. Get up and start doing your work. It is now or never because tomorrow never comes.
5. FORGETTING CURVE
Ebbinghaus forgetting curve describes the decrease in ability of the brain to retain memory over time. The issue was hypothesized by Hermann Ebbinghaus in 1885, which is why it’s called Ebbinghaus forgetting curve.
The theory is that humans start losing the memory of learned knowledge over time, in a matter of days or weeks, unless the learned knowledge is consciously reviewed time and again
According to this theory, studying everything once and thinking you're prepared is wrong. Your brain only remembers 40% of what you studied after one hour of studying and 10% after one day. This is why revision and seeing through what you studied earlier is imporant
